Alabama Lawmakers Champion State's Interests on Capitol Hill!

Senator Katie Britt and Representative Dale Strong recently stepped up for Alabama in crucial Capitol Hill hearings with U.S. Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick. Our dynamic duo tackled topics vital to the Yellowhammer State!

Biotech Boom in Birmingham

Senator Britt (R-Montgomery) shone a spotlight on the awesome work happening at Southern Research and their Birmingham Biotech Hub. "These Birmingham-based experts? National leaders!" she declared, emphasizing their expertise in ecology, medicine, and infectious diseases. She made sure to thank Lutnick for prioritizing fairness.

Revving Up Alabama's Auto Industry

Britt didn't stop there! She emphasized the automotive industry's transformative power. "Auto manufacturing has truly transformed our economy, and it has literally driven us into the 21st century," she stated proudly. "Alabama is the number one auto-exporting state!" She then asked Lutnick how the feds planned to "replicate the great work" happening here.

Lutnick assured her the administration is all about "reshoring," especially in auto, and that Alabama stands to benefit big time.

Strong Stands Up for Farmers and Manufacturing

Congressman Dale Strong (R-Huntsville) joined the fight the following day, praising Mazda Toyota and Toyota Motor Manufacturing in his district. He told Lutnick he prioritizes President Trump’s America First trade agenda.

Strong also addressed the challenges facing Alabama's farmers (and farmers nationwide). “The American farmer is suffering. Commodity prices are low,” he stated. He pressed Lutnick for solutions.

Lutnick's response? Open up those markets for beef, poultry, and pork! Sounds like some progress for our local producers!

Freeze on the Hot Seat? Barkley Sounds Off

The Auburn Tigers are entering year three of the Hugh Freeze era, and let’s just say the first two seasons weren't exactly roaring successes. Freeze got a bit of a pass initially, considering the state of the team he inherited. But after a disappointing regression last year, failing to even reach a bowl game, the pressure is ON.

On paper, things look brighter this year. But as we all know, games aren't won on paper. Freeze needs to deliver results, period.

Barkley's Blunt Assessment

Auburn legend Charles Barkley recently weighed in on Freeze's situation in an interview, and he didn't hold back.

"He's gotta have a good year — it's that simple," Barkley declared. "They have to make a decision what's a good year and what's a great year, but we have to see something positive... Last year, we regressed."

The SEC Gauntlet

Barkley emphasized the challenge ahead. "Alabama is not going anywhere, Georgia is not going anywhere, Tennessee is not going anywhere. We're just gonna have to play our behinds off. It's that simple."

It’s clear that expectations are sky-high for Freeze this season. He knows the stakes, and it's almost time for him to put his team on the field and silence the doubters!

North Alabama's Space Shot: Big Bucks for Marshall!

Hold onto your helmets, ChumCity! While D.C. debates, North Alabama's Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC) is poised for a major funding boost! Word on the street is the Senate's version of a certain "big, beautiful bill" could mean millions for MSFC and billions for NASA projects linked to the Huntsville hub.

What's in the Rocket's Budget?

Leaked documents suggest MSFC is in line for a cool $100 million earmarked for some much-needed infrastructure love. But that's not all! An eye-watering $4.1 billion could be heading to the Space Launch Systems (SLS) powering the Artemis IV and V missions. You know, the ones designed to get humans back to the Moon! MSFC is the brains behind SLS, the only rocket of its kind to make lunar trips possible.

Plus, the Gateway, that fancy lunar space station also being built by MSFC, is looking at $2.6 billion in funding. That's a serious space piggy bank!

Senator Britt: Marshall is "Second-to-None!"

Alabama's own Senator Katie Britt is all aboard the MSFC bandwagon, praising its invaluable role in NASA's research. Britt emphasized that "the incredible men and women at NASA" deserve support. She also mentioned the significance of the SLS rocket, the only one that can currently deliver astronauts and cargo to lunar orbit in one go.

Space Industry Says "Blast Off!"

The Aerospace Industries Association and the Coalition for Deep Space Exploration are both giving the Senate bill a thumbs-up. According to AIA's Eric Fanning, this funding is essential for the U.S. to keep its cosmic crown and move forward with "mission-critical programs".

MSFC: A Huntsville Powerhouse

With over 6,000 employees, MSFC is NASA's biggest center, fueled by a budget of about $5 billion annually. Founded way back in 1960, it's a major force in the Rocket City!

The 2026 election cycle is officially HERE, and you know what that means: Show me the money! We're diving deep into the fundraising game as candidates gear up for the battles ahead.
