Steel City Scoop: Big Bucks Boost for Fairfield!

Hold onto your hard hats, ChumCity! U.S. Steel is dropping a whopping $75 million on its Fairfield Tubular Operations! That's right, folks, more jobs and more steel are heading to our neck of the woods.

Alabama's Senators Sing Praises

Alabama Senators Tommy Tuberville and Katie Britt are practically doing backflips over the news. Senator Tuberville declared it a "huge WIN" for Alabama, while Senator Britt highlighted the boost to American-made manufacturing and our nation's energy leadership.

What's the Dough Doing?

So, what's all this cash going towards? A brand spankin' new Premium Thread Line facility! Think increased threading capacity, snazzier automation, and even safer working conditions. U.S. Steel's CEO, David B. Burritt, says it's a "bold step forward" for American manufacturing.

Fairfield's Future is Forged in Steel

This ain't just about shiny new equipment. The Fairfield plant, already a powerhouse producing top-notch steel pipe and tubes for the energy sector, will be beefing up its game. They're talking more efficient, reliable, American-made products, according to Scott Dorn, Senior Vice President of Tubular Solutions.

Jobs, Jobs, Jobs!

Get this: the project is expected to create 44 permanent jobs, plus about 250 construction jobs during the building phase. And to top it off, the new facility will sport modern environmental controls to keep things clean and safe.

Part of Something Bigger

U.S. Steel says this investment is part of a national expansion plan to shape the future of American manufacturing. Founded way back in 1901, U.S. Steel is playing a big role in our economy!

A Changing of the Guard in the Tennessee Valley

Next year, the Tennessee Valley bids farewell to State Senator Tom Butler, a true legislative mainstay. After decades of dedicated service in both the Alabama House and Senate, he's chosen to step down and close this chapter.

A Legacy of Service

Butler, a pharmacist by trade, remained closely connected to the community he served so well. His commitment spanned 35 years. Though initially a Democrat, his conservative leanings led him to join the Republican Party almost 15 years ago.

Huntsville at a Crossroads

Senator Butler's departure arrives at a pivotal moment. Huntsville, now Alabama's largest city, is on the cusp of even more explosive growth. U.S. Space Command Headquarters and the expanding FBI presence at Redstone Arsenal promise a dynamic future, building upon our robust tech, aerospace, and research sectors.

Senate District 2, encompassing portions of Limestone and Madison Counties (Alabama's fastest and third-fastest growing, respectively), stands at the heart of this growth. The right successor is crucial.

Why John Roberts?

I firmly believe John Roberts is the ideal choice to fill Senator Butler's seat.

A Man Who Knows the Valley

Roberts, former director of Business Retention & Expansion for the Huntsville/Madison County Chamber, possesses invaluable insight into our community's needs. His expertise will be vital in navigating our area's ongoing growth. As Real Estate & Development Manager for Freedom Real Estate & Capital, LLC and with his past involvement with the Huntsville Madison Home Builders Association, he understands the challenges facing both commercial and residential markets. He'll ensure North Alabama's smart and balanced growth.

An Effective Advocate

In a state assured of a GOP legislative supermajority, Roberts will be an effective advocate for vital infrastructure funding. He'll champion road and bridge improvements needed to keep pace with our booming population. He'll also secure crucial education funding, school construction dollars, and other resources to support our growing community.

Shared Values

On social issues, Roberts shares the commonsense conservative values cherished by most Alabamians. He'll champion the core principles that define our state and the Tennessee Valley.

Restoring a Landmark

Finally, he'll prioritize the replacement of the Saturn 1-B rocket at the Ardmore welcome center, restoring this beloved landmark and ensuring interstate travelers recognize they're entering a truly unique place.

The Right Man, The Right Time

John Roberts is the perfect candidate for State Senate – dedicated to making our community an even better place to live, work, and raise our families.

Lewis McDonald is the Director of Commercial Division at Jacob Title in Huntsville and served as campaign chairman for Lt. Gov. Will Ainsworth. He is the son of conservative Republican activist Stan McDonald and the grandson of former State Senator Albert McDonald, who also served as commissioner of the Alabama Department of Agriculture & Industries.

Senate Race Heating Up!

The Alabama Senate race is getting spicy! Republican Jared Hudson just snagged a major endorsement from U.S. Senator Tim Sheehy (R-Montana). This comes on the heels of U.S. Rep. Barry Moore getting some love from his Republican buddies in the Senate.

Who's in the Ring?

Hudson, Moore, and Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall are all vying for that Senate seat. Remember Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn)? He decided he'd rather be governor than senator, opening up this very opportunity.

Sheehy's Stamp of Approval

Sheehy, a Navy SEAL vet himself, didn't hold back, calling Hudson a "warrior" ready to shake things up in Washington. "Washington is full of career politicians and lawyers. Jared Hudson is a warrior," Sheehy declared. "Alabama deserves a fighter!"

Hudson Responds

Hudson, a decorated Navy SEAL and CEO of Covenant Rescue Group (fighting human trafficking!), was thrilled. He called Sheehy "a warrior, a patriot, and a man who understands what service and sacrifice really mean."

Momentum Building?

Hudson's campaign folks are saying Sheehy's endorsement is a sign of a growing grassroots movement ready to send an "Alabama First Warrior" to D.C.

Mark Your Calendars!

The Republican primary is set for May 19, 2026 – less than 200 days away! Get ready to rumble, Alabama!

Anna Grace Baker: Balancing Crimsonette Life with Nursing at UA

Anna Grace Baker isn't your average college student. She's a Crimsonette and a nursing student at The University of Alabama, navigating clinical rotations, classes, and rigorous dance practice with unwavering focus. This powerhouse juggles academics, athletics, and leadership like a pro, embracing every challenge as a chance to shine.

A Family Legacy of Service

Anna Grace's commitment to helping others stems from a deep-rooted family tradition. Her father, a former assistant fire chief, and her two firefighter brothers instilled in her the values of courage and selflessness.

"Seeing them take care of others on their worst day was something I loved," says Baker. "Their hearts for service inspire me to keep pushing through school to become just like them."

This upbringing fueled her ambition to become a nurse, driving her to make a positive impact in every aspect of her life.

Twirling, Travel, and Unwavering Dedication

Before college, Anna Grace honed her work ethic by balancing high school with courses at Jefferson State Community College, all while traveling the country as a majorette. These experiences taught her resilience and the joy of pursuing goals with the support of loved ones. Now, as a Crimsonette, she pours that same dedication into every practice and performance.

When Crimsonette Life Meets Nursing

Being a Crimsonette has shaped Anna Grace in unexpected ways. The demanding schedule has instilled endurance, focus, and leadership skills. "During our band camp, we practice for over 12 hours," she explains, highlighting the team's commitment.

Her dual roles even overlap. "The girls on our team will come to me for any scrapes, cuts or any medical questions, and I think it is so cool that I get to be that person for them." She sees a clear connection: "As a Crimsonette, we are always giving back to the community... As a nurse, we get to be the light for a family who is walking through a dark time."

UA: Shaping Her Future

Between nursing clinicals and dance practice, Anna Grace has mastered time management and prioritization, skills that have transformed her college experience. She's preparing for a bright future, backed by the Capstone College of Nursing's exceptional program.

Carrying the Torch Forward

After graduation, Anna Grace plans to return to Clanton, to be with her family and begin her career in cardiac nursing. She also hopes to keep the Crimsonette spirit alive by coaching baton. "I am excited to see what the next chapter holds for me," Baker says, "but it is hard to say goodbye to this one."

With a heart dedicated to service and an unwavering determination, Anna Grace Baker is set to leave a lasting impact on her community, her patients, and the future generation of Crimsonettes.

Rep. Rex Reynolds Named RC&D Legislator of the Year!

Huntsville's own State Rep. Rex Reynolds (R) just snagged a major award! The Alabama Association of RC&D Councils (AARCD) has named him their 2025 RC&D Legislator of the Year.

Honored at Guntersville

The big announcement happened at the Alabama Mountains, Rivers & Valleys RC&D annual conference at Guntersville State Park Lodge. It was a gathering of RC&D rockstars from all over Alabama, celebrating the teamwork that makes our communities stronger through conservation and development projects.

A Champion for Communities

This award recognizes lawmakers who are seriously dedicated to community development, conservation, and those amazing grassroots partnerships. Reynolds, who's the chair of the House General Fund Committee, got the nod for his outstanding leadership and advocacy statewide.

"Boots on the Ground"

“What I enjoy most about what we do in the legislature is appropriating funds that get down to our non-profits and our community-based programs, like RC&D, doing the ‘boots on the ground’ work,” Reynolds said. He also thanked them for their work across the state.

Investing in Alabama's Future

The Alabama Association of RC&D Councils partners with the Legislature to put state funds back into local projects. Think outdoor classrooms, better internet in rural areas, farm innovation, helping out volunteer fire departments, and cleaning up the environment. It's all about making Alabama a better place to live!

Making a Difference

Katie Conner, executive director of the AARC&D Councils, praised Reynolds as an "incredible advocate" who truly cares about the people RC&D serves. Renona Seibert, executive director of the AMRV RC&D Council, also expressed gratitude for Reynolds's commitment to North Alabama, helping bring resources directly to the communities they serve.

Alabama GOP Chair: AEA Would "Slit Our Throats"

Hold on to your hats, ChumCity citizens, because things are getting spicy in Alabama politics! State Republican Party Chairman John Wahl recently dropped a bombshell, agreeing "100%" with the idea that the Alabama Education Association (AEA) would figuratively "slit the throat" of Republican officials to help Democrats win. Ouch!

Wahl's Fiery Remarks

Wahl made the comments on WVNN's "The Dale Jackson Show," responding to a rather pointed question about the AEA's allegiances. He didn't hold back, folks.

No Love Lost

Wahl was quick to point out that he isn't exactly buddy-buddy with the AEA. He even bragged about pushing through a rule banning the AEA from donating to school board candidates, aiming to reduce their influence on education. "This is not a love affair with the AEA, okay?" he declared.

Homeschool Concerns and Broken Promises?

However, Wahl also defended his recent dialogue with the AEA regarding regulations potentially targeting homeschool families. He claimed he secured a "no regulation" pledge from them, aiming to protect parental rights. His strategy? Call them out and hold them accountable!

Holding AEA Accountable

Wahl made it clear that if the AEA goes back on their word, he'll make sure every lawmaker in Montgomery knows they "lied to me." He emphasized that the Republican supermajority in the legislature boxes the AEA in, forcing them to play by the GOP's rules. Will the AEA keep their promise? Only time will tell, ChumCity!

Senator Britt Tackles Childcare Crisis!

Senator Katie Britt (R-Montgomery) recently sat down with CBS Sunday Morning to chat with Tracy Smith about something HUGE: making childcare accessible and affordable for everyone! This is a cause near and dear to Senator Britt's heart, and she's making it a bipartisan mission in the Senate.

Childcare: Not Just a Family Issue, But an Economic One!

Alongside Senator Tim Kaine (D-Virginia), Britt highlighted the crippling economic effects of sky-high childcare costs. "Our economy loses a staggering $122 billion every year because of childcare's affordability and accessibility problems," she stated.

Smith pointed out the obvious, "This isn't just about families; it's an economic problem too!"

Britt wholeheartedly agreed. "Studies show that 59% of stay-at-home or part-time parents are itching to get back into the workforce. But the reliability, affordability, and accessibility of childcare are holding them back!"

Championing Change for Working Families

The segment shone a spotlight on Senator Britt's childcare wins within the Working Families Tax Cut Act. These updates modernize and expand long-standing tax credits, a move that hasn't been made in almost 25 years!

Smith noted these updates were part of a recently passed bill, updating childcare tax credits for the first time in a quarter century and increasing tax benefits.

Fighting for Solutions!

When asked what she'd say to families struggling with childcare costs, Britt passionately replied, "We're fighting for you! We're committed to working hard and delivering real solutions."

Beyond Tax Cuts: A Broader Vision

Britt isn't stopping there! She's also spearheading the Child Care Availability and Affordability Act, another bipartisan effort in the Senate. This bill would bring much-needed updates to programs like the Child and Dependent Care Tax Credit (CDCTC) and others, some of which haven't been touched since 2001!

According to Senator Britt's office, childcare costs have skyrocketed by 263% since then! One program hasn't even been updated since 1986!

Supporting Moms and Families

Senator Britt's dedication extends to other vital measures like the MOMS Act, the NIH IMPROVE Act, and the Rural Obstetrics Readiness Act. All these initiatives focus on boosting access to care and opportunities for women and children. Go, Senator Britt!

Troy Trojans Name New AD!

Big news coming out of Troy! Over the weekend, word dropped that Kyle George, the interim Athletic Director, is officially taking on the full-time gig! He's been holding down the fort since August 2025, and it looks like he's earned his stripes.

A Trojan Through and Through
