Robertson Kicks Off AG Campaign with Marshall's Backing

Katherine Robertson, currently Chief Counsel to Attorney General Steve Marshall, officially launched her campaign for Alabama Attorney General in the 2026 GOP primary. Regions Field in Birmingham was buzzing Tuesday evening as she made the announcement.

Marshall's Endorsement

Marshall himself introduced and endorsed Robertson, highlighting the possibility of her becoming Alabama's first female Attorney General. He enthusiastically praised her experience and dedication.

A Focus on Experience

Marshall, facing term limits, emphasized Robertson's impressive record, dating back to 2017. He noted her commitment to core values and her unwavering resolve. His remarks centered solely on Robertson, jokingly mentioning term limits due to the large crowd.

Robertson's Gratitude and Vision

Robertson started by thanking Marshall and highlighting his accomplishments. She committed to building upon his conservative legal legacy and taking a tough stance on crime and federal overreach.

Her Background

Robertson's career spans roles under former Attorneys General Luther Strange and Jeff Sessions, as well as time with U.S. Senator Jeff Sessions. A proud Auburn and University of Alabama School of Law graduate, she's been at the forefront of reforms addressing issues like capital litigation, gang violence, and opioid litigation.

Shared Battles, Shared Values

Marshall emphasized their shared experiences in the "foxhole," fighting against the Biden administration and championing Alabama's freedoms. He lauded Robertson's grasp of the issues, grit, and dedication to the people of Alabama, calling her the "most qualified person for this job."

Taking on the Status Quo

Robertson pledged to defend Alabama values and pointed to legislative successes targeting gang violence and child exploitation. She aligned herself with President Trump and criticized past administrations.

A Call to Action

Robertson stressed the need for action and leadership from Alabama, criticizing "opportunistic talk." She emphasized the challenges of state government and the need for an Attorney General who can "battle through the status quo mentality in Montgomery."

The Road Ahead

Robertson officially filed her paperwork. With the election less than two years away, her fundraising efforts will be closely watched. Her connections with the Republican Attorney Generals Association could prove beneficial.

The Competition

The race for Attorney General already has two other candidates: former Alabama Supreme Court Justice Jay Mitchell and Blount County District Attorney Pamela Casey.

The Future is Calling: Get Ready for 6G!

Remember clunky 1G phones? Fast forward through 2G text messages, 3G video calls, and the 4G streaming revolution. Now, brace yourselves, Chumsters, because 6G is on the horizon, promising a tech-tastic transformation!

But what exactly is 6G, and how will it impact our lives? We tapped Shiwen Mao, a wireless whiz from Auburn University, for the inside scoop.

Beyond Phones: 6G's Wild Potential

Forget just faster downloads! Mao says 6G is about to explode beyond traditional mobile phones. Think immersive AR/VR, super-smart homes keeping an eye on things, autonomous vehicles doing their own thing, and factories powered by total automation.

Will Your Phone Become a Dinosaur?

Not so fast! Backward compatibility is key. Think of how your new Wi-Fi router still plays nice with your older devices. The rollout of 6G will be gradual, and providers don't want to break the bank overhauling everything.

But get this: new gadgets are already emerging! Mao mentioned the Humane AI Pin, a crazy wearable that projects info onto your hand! Plus, smart headsets and glasses are getting seriously smart, mapping the world around you and responding to your gestures! Your phone might evolve into something way cooler (or disappear altogether!).

AI: The Secret Sauce of 6G

AI is going to be HUGE. Mao calls it the "most disruptive technology" in 6G. Imagine AI models running right on your phone, at the edge of the network, and in the cloud! Expect AI to boost network efficiency while also making your AI-powered apps (like search engines and chatbots) even better.

When Will 6G Land?

Hang tight, Chumsters! Experts predict the first commercial 6G deployments around the early 2030s. Standardization is already underway, so it's only a matter of time.

Any 6G Drawbacks?

Of course, there are challenges. Defining "6G" is becoming increasingly broad. Upgrading network infrastructure is expensive, and there are environmental concerns about energy consumption and e-waste. Plus, while AI enhances 6G, relying too heavily on algorithms we don't fully understand could lead to biased results.

The future is uncertain but one thing is for sure, it's going to be fast!

A Farewell and a Warm Welcome

The current Secretary, Jan Hume, is heading to Auburn University (War Eagle!) as a Professor of Practice in Public Administration. Hume has been a powerhouse at the Department for almost 14 years, and Governor Ivey gave her mad props for her dedication to giving Alabama kids a strong start.

Ivey's Take

Ivey gushed about both Hume and Brooks, saying they're the reason Alabama's been a leader in early childhood education for ages. She's pumped about Brooks taking the lead and building on their success.

Brooks' Background

Like Ivey herself, Brooks started her career in the classroom, teaching young students about state history for almost 20 years! She was even a finalist for Alabama Teacher of the Year back in 2017. Talk about impressive!

Brooks' Reaction

Brooks is super excited about her new gig, saying it's an "incredible honor." She's all about giving every child a strong start and working with dedicated people.

What's Next?

Brooks is currently the director for the P-3 Partnership at the Department and has been a key player in Ivey's Strong Start, Strong Finish education initiative. Hume will stick around through the summer to help with the transition, and Brooks officially takes over on June 16, 2025. Exciting times!

Alabama the Beautiful: Women Leading the Way Outdoors

Here in Alabama, we know our natural beauty is something truly special. For too long, outdoor activities felt like a boys' club, but thankfully, that's changing! We're highlighting three amazing Alabama women who are deeply connected to our state's wild side.

Marilyn Vetter: The Preservationist

Marilyn Vetter, CEO of Quail Forever, understands the importance of preserving our outdoor spaces. Growing up, she spent countless hours outside, learning the value of conservation from her mother. “My parents instilled that value, that nothing was to be wasted,” she says. "Every time you take a bird, you hold it and you value it because it gave something for you.”

Marilyn believes experiencing the outdoors can spark a powerful connection. For hunters, it's more than just the game bag; it's being out there with family and friends. At Quail Forever, their goal is to show everyone that "small actions lead to greater impact." Conservation can be life-changing, filling a void you never knew existed.

Christiana Roussel: Finding Magic in Nature

Birmingham's own Christiana Roussel, editor, award-winning writer, and host of the Afield podcast, is a true nature lover. She shares a quote from Thoreau: "I believe that there is a subtle magnetism in Nature, which, if we unconsciously yield to it, will direct us aright."

Christiana admits she discovered the outdoors later in life. She now appreciates the joy of watching dogs work, the camaraderie of quail hunts, and the quiet exhilaration of fly fishing. And of course sitting by a bonfire. She adds, "It may have taken me a while to get here, but I’m savoring every moment of these newfound adventures."

Blakelee Moody: Home Sweet Alabama

Blakelee Moody, an Alabama content creator and outdoor enthusiast, offers a fresh perspective on being a modern outdoorswoman.

She challenges the "drive-through state" perception, asking, "When was the last time you explored your backyard?" From live oaks to azaleas, beaches to hills, Alabama offers endless beauty and wildlife.

Blakelee sees being outdoors as a calling, connecting her to nature in a profound way. "Being an outdoorswoman feels like a calling I can’t turn down," she says. "It allows me to simplify my life, silence the distractions and the noise, and bring perspective to what’s really important." Her goal is to inspire other women to get outside, embracing their femininity while falling in love with Alabama's natural wonders.

Alabama Executes Inmate in Walker County Murder Case

The Crime and Sentence

Lane suffered approximately 60 injuries in the attack, including around 20 blows to the head, according to reports. Hunt received a death sentence following an 11-1 jury recommendation and has been on death row since his conviction.

Execution Details

Governor Kay Ivey set a 30-hour window for the execution, which ultimately took place at the William C. Holman Correctional Facility in Atmore.

Nitrogen Gas Execution

Hunt chose nitrogen gas as his method of execution before the state even finalized the procedure. This marks Alabama's second nitrogen gas execution this year. Demetrius Terrence Frazier was previously executed by nitrogen gas in February.

Last-Minute Appeal

Hunt recently filed a final appeal, claiming prosecutors misrepresented evidence during his trial. However, the Alabama Attorney General's office dismissed the claim.

Wetumpka Puts the Brakes on Certain Businesses!

Hold up, ChumCity! Wetumpka's City Council just hit pause on new licenses and building permits for a select bunch of businesses. We're talking package stores, convenience stores, gas stations, vape shops, mini-warehouses, and self-storage spots.

Why the Timeout?

Apparently, there are growing worries about public safety and zoning issues. City leaders are concerned about the rising number of these places and the potential problems they might bring, like jammed-up traffic and, gulp, increased crime.

Moratorium Details

This temporary freeze will be in effect until June 2026, giving officials some breathing room to study the situation and see if any zoning tweaks or other regulations are needed.

Who's Affected?

If you already submitted your applications for a building permit or an ABC license before the moratorium passed, you're in the clear. Also, existing businesses with valid licenses are good to go. Expired licenses though? Might be a no-go for reopening during this period.

Stay Tuned!

Wetumpka's taking a step back to re-evaluate. We'll be keeping an eye on how this unfolds!
