Alabama's business bigwigs got a serious earful straight from the voters: focus on the moolah, honey! At the Business Council of Alabama's (BCA) annual pow-wow, fresh survey data revealed that a whopping 59% of Republican primary voters want elected officials laser-focused on economic issues. We're talkin' jobs, slashing taxes and regulations, and finally fixin' that crumbling infrastructure. The poll, commissioned by the BCA and conducted by Cygnal, a Montgomery-grown research powerhouse, zeroed in on voter priorities and the business climate. Turns out, the top five things on voters' minds are inflation, taxes, immigration, infrastructure, and JOBS. Mitchell Brown, a Cygnal pollster, emphasized that this craving for pocketbook policies isn't just an Alabama thing, it's sweeping the South. According to Brown, voters aren't just looking for better policies, they are looking for prosperity. So, what's holding Alabama back? Workforce challenges topped the list, with rural voters griping about "high taxes and fees," while city slickers pointed fingers at "poor infrastructure." Small business owners are sweating over regulations, taxes, and access to cash, while workers are hungry for career advancement and bigger employers. On the bright side, most voters think Alabama's a pretty decent place for small and medium-sized businesses. Only a tiny fraction (8%) think it's "very unsupportive." Brown also put Alabama's mood in a national context. While national sentiment's been kinda stuck in neutral, Republicans are sittin' pretty for congressional races, dodging the "bloodbath" scenario some predicted. And get this: Donald Trump's support among Republican voters is LOCKED IN, baby! According to Brown the voters who hate Trump's style still voted for him because they thought their life was easier in 2019 than it is now. In Alabama, Trump's got sky-high approval among GOP voters. Governor Ivey's still a rockstar, and Senator Tommy Tuberville is lookin' good, too! Senator Katie Britt is also highly popular. Brown's message to lawmakers and business leaders? "Lean in on the economy!" Voters want more economic change, plain and simple. They want a better future for themselves and their kids, so don't lose sight of that.Alabama Voters to Business Leaders: It's the Economy, Stupid!
