Senator Tommy Tuberville's recent proposal to crack down on Sharia law in U.S. courts and restrict entry for its advocates is causing quite the stir. An Alabama Muslim organization isn't holding back their disapproval. CAIR-Alabama, the local chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations, has come out swinging against Tuberville's two-bill package, dubbed the No Sharia Act and the Preserving a Sharia-Free America Act. According to CAIR-Alabama Staff Attorney Britton O'Shields, the bill is an "unconstitutional attack on the religious freedom" of Alabamians and all Americans. O'Shields didn't mince words, calling Tuberville's effort a "publicity stunt" that shows "contempt for religious freedom." The Senator isn't backing down. He believes Sharia law is "fundamentally incompatible with America's values," claiming it advocates for violence and contradicts the Constitution. Tuberville argues for the necessity of a federal standard mirroring Alabama's 2014 amendment, which prevents state courts from applying foreign law in ways that violate state policy or citizen rights. His message is clear: respect the Constitution, or find another home. The No Sharia Act seeks to prevent courts from enforcing rulings based on foreign or religious law that clash with U.S. constitutional rights. The Preserving a Sharia-Free America Act aims to block visas and immigration benefits for those advocating Sharia in ways that undermine the Constitution, reinforcing the government's power to deport them.Tuberville's Sharia Law Bills Draw Fire in Alabama
