Limestone County is BOOMING, and our schools are feeling the squeeze! To tackle the growing need for top-notch education, Limestone County Schools just broke ground on a major expansion of the Limestone County Career Technical Center!

$12 Million Investment in Education

This awesome $12 million project will add 11 new classrooms, more restrooms (yay!), a bigger auditorium/meeting room for all sorts of events, a brand-new front entrance, and expanded office space. Get ready for more learning!

Exploding Enrollment at Career Tech

Back in 2013, the Career Technical Center had a record 545 students. Fast forward to this fall, and enrollment is expected to skyrocket to 1,200! That's some serious growth!

A Proactive Approach to Education

"Our board is always looking for ways to make Limestone County even better," said Limestone County Schools Superintendent Dr. Randy Shearouse. "Expanding Career Tech lets us help even more students prepare for their futures!"

More Than Just Bricks and Mortar

But wait, there's more! Dr. Shearouse mentioned that the board is exploring adding exciting programs like aviation. Plus, they're bringing in a new health science teacher!

Construction Timeframe

The renovations are expected to take around 18-24 months. Exciting times ahead for Limestone County students!

The check presentation, attended by Mayor Ronnie Marks, City Council President James Lucas, and reps from both TVA and Athens Utilities, celebrated projects ranging from training future line workers to ensuring students have access to essential hygiene items. Seriously, these guys are making a difference!

The Community Care Fund: A Helping Hand

Launched back in the dark days of COVID-19, TVA's Community Care Fund is all about giving back to the communities it serves. Athens Utilities steps up to the plate by matching TVA's contribution, creating a powerful partnership for positive change.

Hunter Allen, Electric Department Manager, emphasized that this is more than just providing power; it's about investing in Limestone County's future. Mayor Marks echoed this sentiment, praising the non-profits and the program's ability to bolster their important work.

Twister Troubles in North Alabama!

Whoa, North Alabama's been hit hard by some serious weather! Apparently, we've seen a whopping 14 tornadoes touch down in the last week alone.

May 20th Mayhem

The National Weather Service Huntsville confirmed that a total of 13 tornadoes and one waterspout ripped through the region during the severe weather outbreak on May 20th. Talk about a wild ride!

Ranger Road Rumble

And get this – a new EF-0 tornado, nicknamed the "Ranger Road tornado," touched down on Redstone Arsenal Tuesday evening. It packed estimated maximum winds of 83 mph!

Storage Tanks Tossed Like Toys!

The survey team reported some pretty crazy damage. The tornado bent fencing like it was made of paper, shifted a bunch of 500-pound storage tanks, and even tossed a few of them around!

Metal Building Mess

A metal frame storage building didn't fare much better. One side collapsed, with metal framework bent every which way. Contents were reportedly strewn hundreds of yards downwind. Yikes!

Quick and Dirty!

Thankfully, this twister was a speed demon. It was only on the ground for a mere two minutes (6:51-6:53 p.m.) and traveled just 25 yards before fizzling out. Talk about a blink-and-you'll-miss-it moment!
