Sungho Park, a public policy professor at the University of Alabama, analyzed Helena’s finances. His findings suggest that Helena’s debt ratio is alarmingly high, exceeding acceptable thresholds. Park also pointed out that the per-resident cost for the new city hall was significantly higher than national averages for similar projects.

Acknowledging the Issues

City leaders have acknowledged the audit's findings, attributing the deficit partly to outdated budgeting practices. While Mayor Brian Puckett (who isn't seeking re-election) stated that the audit was a snapshot from before a bond sale replenished reserve funds, concerns remain about long-term financial stability.

Good news! Congress and the White House are launching efforts to boost event security. Plus, President Trump signed an Executive Order establishing the White House Task Force on the FIFA World Cup 2026.

Strong will also be part of a bipartisan "Task Force on Enhancing Security for Special Events in the United States." They'll focus on the FIFA World Cup in 2026, the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, and the United States’ 250th Anniversary.

"I applaud Vice Chairman McCaul and Chairman Green," Strong shared. "I’m honored to be on this task force!" The group will visit event sites, hold hearings, host roundtables, and release a final report on their findings. This all goes toward the Committee’s oversight of National Special Security Events (NSSEs) and major Special Event Assessment Rating (SEAR) events.

U.S. Senator Katie Britt made a triumphant return to her roots, delivering the 2025 commencement address at Enterprise High School – the very place she walked the halls 25 years ago!

Wildcat Stadium Buzzing

Speaking at Wildcat Stadium, Senator Britt (R-Montgomery) brought a powerful message of gratitude, perseverance, and the special bond of the Enterprise community to the Class of 2025.

Deep Roots

"It is an honor to be back in Enterprise with all of you this evening," Britt shared. "Anyone who knows me will tell you the things that I hold most dear are my relationship with the dear Lord, with my family, and being from here." She emphasized, “The Enterprise community is important to me, and I know it is to all of you. It’s where I was born and raised."

Celebrating Success

Senator Britt cheered on the Class of 2025's impressive achievements. These 517 graduates aced career and technical education, racking up a whopping 578 industry certifications! Two students were named National Merit Finalists and Scholars, and 43 seniors snagged athletic scholarships. She even gave a shout-out to the awesome boys’ soccer and football teams.

Investing in the Future

Graduating seniors collectively earned a massive $1.75 million in scholarships and educational benefits, with the top 19% boasting GPAs over 4.0! Britt also honored those heading into military service or education.

Facing Challenges Head-On

Sharing personal stories, Britt urged students to see setbacks as opportunities. She opened up about college leadership failures, career disappointments, and even starting her Senate race polling at just 2%! "Failure is not fun. Challenges are hard. Disappointments will happen. But many times they are necessary for your future success.”

Her message? Resilience and determination. "What I want each of you to promise me is that when you get knocked down, know that God calls you to do hard things and that we need every one of you to stand back up."

Britt reminded the students that success is built on character, relationships, and a commitment to service. "It doesn’t cost you a thing to be kind. The way you treat people matters."

Closing her speech, Britt expressed immense pride and confidence in the Class of 2025. "Never forget where you came from and what this place has instilled in you. And no matter how far your path takes you, remember that being from Enterprise means always being able to come home."
