GOP Edging Out Dems in Trust Factor?

Hold on to your hats, ChumCity citizens! A recent national poll from Cygnal is dropping some truth bombs: Voters seem to trust Republicans in Congress more than Democrats, even with all the noise surrounding the GOP and former President Trump.

Numbers Don't Lie?

Trump and House Republicans are apparently leading the pack on key issues like the economy (R+2), cost of living (R+2), and whoa, illegal immigration (R+25!). They're also seen as stronger on crime and public safety (R+13), cutting wasteful spending (R+18), and foreign affairs (R+2). What's more, married women, union members, and even Hispanics seem to be shifting towards the GOP since April!

What's the Deal?

Pollster John Rogers suggests the Democrat Party's brand is at a "low point," with voters prioritizing issues like inflation and immigration. Rogers said, "Democrats aren’t connecting with the average voter. Fighting oligarchy is an abstraction, arguing for open borders is a losing message across the board, and neither addresses inflation and the economy.”

Trump's To-Do List: Lower Those Prices!

Voters are loud and clear: they want the former President to focus on reducing the cost of living. A whopping 52% say this should be the top priority!

Trade Winds are Blowing

It looks like voters are also backing Trump's trade moves, with 58% supporting his attempts to renegotiate deals. And almost half are on board with increasing tariffs on China to get better terms for the US.

Courts: Umpires or Opposition?

The poll also touches on the courts, with opinions split on whether they're acting as impartial umpires or trying to undermine the administration. It's a wild political landscape out there, folks!

Aderholt Tackles Health Care Woes with HHS Secretary Kennedy

Rep. Robert Aderholt recently met with Secretary Robert F. Kennedy of Health and Human Services to discuss crucial improvements to our nation's health systems. They focused on boosting the overall well-being of folks across the U.S.

Big Spending, Small Results?

Aderholt highlighted that while we're dropping a HUGE amount of cash on healthcare – nearly $2 trillion a year – Americans still aren't seeing the health outcomes they deserve.

Time for Bold Moves

"It's time for bold, innovative approaches, not just throwing more money at the problem!" Aderholt exclaimed. He's jazzed that Secretary Kennedy seems ready to shake things up and bring fresh ideas to HHS.

Rural Health in the Spotlight

Aderholt stressed that the declining state of healthcare in rural communities is a major reason for reform.

Rural Health Crisis

"The health challenges in rural America are real and hit home hard," Aderholt said. "I'm all in on working with Secretary Kennedy to find solutions that protect access to care and keep our rural hospitals and providers strong."

Upholding the Sanctity of Life

Referencing Secretary Kennedy's commitment to "respect the sanctity of life," Aderholt also addressed concerns about CDC-funded abortion-related activities under the Biden Administration.

Standing for Life

"As a staunch supporter of the right to life, I value Secretary Kennedy’s promise to uphold these core beliefs," he stated.

Working Together for a Healthier Future

Aderholt wrapped up by reaffirming his dedication to the American people and finding solutions that will truly make a difference in their lives.

Reforming Washington

"Reforming Washington is a tough job," Aderholt admitted, "but we in Congress are ready to roll up our sleeves and work with the Secretary and the Administration to create real, lasting improvements to our health care system."

Alabama's "Deadest Bill" Gets a Hilarious Sendoff!

The Alabama House just wrapped up its 2025 session with the legendary Shroud Award – the "deadest bill" prize! This quirky tradition, cooked up in '79 by Earl Mitchell, celebrates the bill with zero chance of survival.

And the Winner Is...

This year, Rep. Ron Bolton (R-Northport) snagged the honor for his child passenger restraint bill, HB18. The prize? A burial suit inside a cardboard coffin!

Why the Coffin?

While Bolton's intentions were good, his bill's complexity drew fire from all sides. Rep. Marcus Paramore even joked it would make his commute "nearly impossible"! Ouch.

A NASCAR-Themed Roast!

Speaker Nathaniel Ledbetter led the good-natured ribbing, celebrating Bolton's sportsmanship. The ceremony even featured a hilarious NASCAR-themed roast, dubbing Bolton's bill the "Strap Them Down and Buckle Them Up Special" that never left the pit!

Laughing All the Way

Bolton took it all in stride, signing the Shroud Award plaque. And who knows? History shows some Shroud Award winners, like medical marijuana and fantasy sports betting, have surprisingly risen from the legislative dead!

Moore Champions Military Readiness with "Readiness Over Wokeness Act"

U.S. Rep. Barry Moore is on a mission: keeping our military sharp and ready for anything! The Enterprise Congressman wants to make sure our fighting force is in top shape for any future global rumble.

Codifying Trump's Transgender Military Ban

Moore believes a crucial step is turning President Trump's executive order banning transgender individuals from military service into law. He says it's all about maintaining peak readiness.

Introducing the "Readiness Over Wokeness Act"

On Wednesday, Moore and fellow House Republicans unveiled the "Readiness Over Wokeness Act" to do just that. Moore stated, "The American people deserve a fighting force that is capable and prepared at any moment to address and deter risks to our nation."

Moore's Reasoning

"Serving in the military requires the ability to sustain high mental and physical standards," Moore (R-Enterprise) explained. "Transgender people have medical, surgical, and mental health concerns that limit their ability to sustain these standards."

Aiming to Reverse "Woke Insanity"

Moore added, "I am proud to introduce this bill to codify President Trump's Executive Order to ensure the woke insanity that occurred under the Biden Administration no longer compromises our military strength and readiness."

Cosponsors on Board

Reps. Anna Paulina Luna (FL-13), Harriet Hageman (WY-AL), Warren Davidson (OH-08), Marjorie Taylor Greene (GA-14), and Andrew Clyde (GA-09) are cosponsoring the bill.

Alabama Courts Crack Down on Shady Lawyer Ads!

The Alabama Supreme Court just gave lawyer advertising a major makeover, aiming to protect you, the awesome public, from misleading claims and outdated practices! Think of it as spring cleaning for legal ads.

What's New?

Chief Justice Sarah Stewart says these updates are a double whammy: they modernize the rules for today's tech-driven world AND beef up safeguards against those deceptive lawyer commercials we've all seen.

Why the Change?

Apparently, you spoke up! The Supreme Court asked the Alabama State Bar to investigate concerns about misleading lawyer ads, and guess what? They listened!

Teamwork Makes the Dream Work

Justice Jay Mitchell acted as the go-between for the Court and the State Bar, ensuring everyone was on the same page. He calls the new rules a "years-long collaboration" that will benefit both lawyers and the public. Sweet!

Alabamians Sound Off!

The State Bar conducted a public survey and discovered some key things you wanted:

  • Lawyers in ads MUST be licensed in Alabama. Makes sense, right?
  • You want to know if the advertised lawyer has a local office.
  • Will that lawyer actually handle your case? Important question!
  • Was that huge settlement amount actually received by a client? Transparency is key!

Staying Constitutional

The new rules tackle those concerns while respecting the First Amendment rights of lawyers. Michal Upchurch, co-chair of the drafting committee, emphasized the goal of creating "reasonable, practical, and constitutionally sound" rules.

Transparency and Accountability!

Chief Justice Stewart stresses the importance of transparency in the legal system. The Court wants rules that protect the public as much as possible, within constitutional limits. "We owe Alabamians transparency and accountability," she said. "The public's trust...must dictate what we do every day."

Harvard: Truth or Hate?

"Veritas," Harvard's motto since 1643, means "Truth." But let's talk some real truth about this institution.

Harvard's Problem

Harvard has a history of turning a blind eye to antisemitism, stifling opposing viewpoints, and actively opposing conservative principles. Trust me, I know. I'm a graduate. I, along with a small band of conservative classmates like Vivek Ramaswamy, felt like patriots behind enemy lines.

Woke-a-palooza

It's impossible to miss the constant "Woke-a-palooza" happening on Harvard's campus. Things went into overdrive with the current administration and the horrific Hamas attack on Israel. Instead of mourning the victims, Harvard students rallied in solidarity with the attackers.

Antisemitism Runs Rampant

Despite Jewish students reporting a rise in antisemitic threats, Harvard's leadership initially hesitated to condemn calls for Jewish genocide. Unbelievable!

Privilege Training?

Instead of addressing the real problem, Harvard offered "privilege training" to Jewish students, implying guilt for their "white privilege" and religious faith. Seriously?

Trump Steps In (Sort Of)

The Trump administration, recognizing the issue, threatened to freeze billions in federal funding unless Harvard cleaned up its act. They demanded reforms to address antisemitism and end ideological bias. Groups like the Harvard Palestine Solidarity Committee were specifically called out.

Resistance From the Top

Harvard's current President has pledged to resist these changes and defend the university's leftist haven.

A Two-Front War

While pressure from Washington helps, conservative alumni need to step up. We need to withhold donations until real change happens. Colleges listen to one thing: money.

Time for a New Motto?

Unless Harvard tackles antisemitism, protects Jewish students, and ends support for terrorist groups, it should ditch "Veritas" and adopt a new motto: "Odium," meaning "Hate."

ChumCity Salutes a True Alabama Legend!

Yellowhammer News is shining a spotlight on an icon tonight at the Power of Service event! We're thrilled to celebrate Jabo Waggoner with their most prestigious lifetime achievement award.

The Name Says It All: Service!

When Alabamians think about dedication and commitment to the public good, one name consistently rises to the top: Jabo Waggoner!

A Career Spanning Generations

From his election to the Alabama House back in '66 (yep, way back when!), Jabo has been a force. He transitioned to the Senate in 1990 and has been a champion for the people ever since.

From Underdog to Leader

Even as a Republican in a heavily Democratic Senate, Jabo's natural charm and competitive spirit helped him become one of the most effective lawmakers in Montgomery.

Making History

When the GOP took control in 2010, Jabo's years of dedicated service earned him the title of Alabama's first Republican majority leader – a historic moment! He also snagged the chairmanship of the powerful Senate Rules Committee, a position he's rocked for the last 15 years.

Too Much to List!

We could fill a book with Jabo's accomplishments (and someone actually DID – it's called "Jabo Waggoner: An Alabama Political Legend"!). From passing landmark bills to chairing influential committees, his positive impact is immeasurable.

A Legacy That Endures

While other political figures fade from memory, Jabo's legacy is secure. He's the longest-serving legislator in Alabama history, a record that won't be broken anytime soon!

A Colleague's Perspective

Senator April Weaver summed it up perfectly: "Serving alongside Sen. Jabo Waggoner is like getting a personal education in leadership from Bear Bryant, dedication from Lou Gehrig, and conservative principles from Ronald Reagan." Now THAT'S a compliment!
