Guin Mayor Phil Segraves is throwin' his hat in the ring! He's officially announced his bid for the Republican nomination in Alabama House District 17, folks. That covers Marion and Lamar counties, plus Haleyville in Winston County. Segraves says he's stoked to keep boosting Northwest Alabama's economy. "I've spent my career bringin' investment here," he declared, "and I'm gonna keep fightin' for good jobs and development in Marion, Lamar, and Haleyville!" This ain't Segraves' first rodeo! He's served FIVE terms as Guin's mayor. Before that, he was on the Guin City Council. Plus, he's been all over the local and regional scene with boards like the Guin Park and Rec, NACOLG, and the Northwest Alabama Gas Board. Oh, and he used to be the big cheese at the Alabama League of Municipalities! "At the Statehouse, I'll keep focusin' on rural development," Segraves promised. "But I'll also make sure our schools – K-12, two-year, and tech schools – get the funding they need!" He's also vowing to stand strong for conservative values and keep taxes low. During his mayoral tenure, Segraves spearheaded efforts to bring Guin's city limits right up to I-22. He helped score funding for water, sewer, gas, electricity, and broadband along that corridor. That led to a 101-room Holiday Inn, bringing 54 new jobs! He also teamed up with regional leaders to get the first electric vehicle supercharging station on I-22, right there at the hotel. "Now thousands stop in Guin to eat, stay at our hotel, and charge their EVs!" Segraves exclaimed. "I'm proud of the teamwork between governments, developers, and our utility partners!" The Republican primary is scheduled for May 19, 2026. Get out and vote, ChumCity!Mayor Segraves Eyes Alabama House Seat!
