Yellowhammer News dropped its annual Power & Influence Top 50 list, and you KNOW ChumCity is all over it! This is the inside scoop on who's REALLY making things happen in Montgomery. Forget the fluff – this list is about who's pulling the levers as we head into a crazy 2026 election season. They even threw a "Power of Service" event to celebrate the honorees. Talk about a power-packed party! Now, let's dive into some of the highlights! Filmore is the QUIET POWERHOUSE. She's Governor Ivey's right hand, a disciplined and demanding Chief of Staff who fosters loyalty and gets results. Think of her as the ultimate behind-the-scenes operator. First and only female Chief of Staff in Alabama history, she’s a legend! Geddie's a LOBBYING LEGEND. He learned from the best and built a lobbying firm that's basically an institution. He knows EVERYTHING about Alabama politics and lawmakers won't move on a bill without his say-so. Perkins sticks up for the UNDERDOG. Some call him ruthless, others say he's just REALLY good. He's fought (and won) tons of battles for those without a voice. Always seems to be battling his way out of something and 2026 should be no different. Ryan's the CONNECTOR. He's got experience in law, government, and politics, making him a go-to advisor for the state's biggest players. He's at the center of everything important happening in Alabama. Bryan's a TRANSFORMATION QUEEN. She turned the Poarch Band of Creek Indians into a serious economic force. From rural Alabama to the Caribbean, she's making moves. Gambling legislation? She's got influence, baby! Orr's the BUDGET BOSS. He handles the HUGE education budget with ease. He's a lawyer with a clear path to reelection and more influence than most people could handle. What a career. Ainsworth has the DISCIPLINE. He's been a consistent presence on this list because he's laser-focused on getting things done. Big bills in the Senate? He's all over them. Gudger has the RESILIENCE. Coming back from a near-fatal accident to lead the Senate? That's impressive! He's a negotiator who's willing to compromise, but once he's made up his mind, it's over. Ledbetter has the HOUSE IN ORDER. He knows he's dealing with a bunch of "lions" and he protects his members. Everyone likes him more leaving the session this year than they did coming in. A loyal man who leads with country wisdom. Ivey's still QUEEN OF THE HILL. As she heads into her final year, she can look back on some major achievements. She stabilized the state and won two full terms. Whether it's education, infrastructure, or manufacturing, she's left her mark.ChumCity's Take on Alabama's Power Players!

The Alabama Scenic River Trail (ASRT) just dropped some serious love on our state's waterways, handing out a whopping $25,000 to seven awesome community projects! These lucky groups are getting funding through the Waterway Enhancement Program to make our rivers more accessible, safer, and just plain fun for everyone. This is the second year ASRT has run this program, and it's all about backing those local, grassroots efforts that come up with creative ways to boost freshwater recreation in Alabama. As ASRT Executive Director Andrew Szymanski says, this is about making Alabama's rivers "more vibrant, accessible, and welcoming for all.†According to Martha Grace Mize, ASRT’s Director of Growth and Development, the 2025 awardees are shining examples of "community-led efforts that prioritize accessibility, safety, and creativity.†Let's give a shout-out to these incredible organizations: ASRT is the official paddling guru for Alabama, managing over 6,500 miles of trails! They team up with local groups, outfitters, and agencies to promote outdoor fun, economic growth, and taking care of our waterways. Way to go, ASRT!Sweet News for Alabama's Rivers!

Even with a wild mix of stoners, business tycoons, and the Alabama Policy Institute all on board, Governor Ivey just gave the nod to legalizing some THC goodies. What does it all mean? Stay tuned, ChumCity's on it! Looks like the whispers about fluoride got too loud! Madison officials are saying the national chatter, fueled in part by Robert F. Kennedy Jr., has them thinking about ditching the water treatment. What do YOU think? Alabama's getting tough on illegal immigration with a new law targeting human smuggling. Think hefty penalties for anyone helping out or driving undocumented folks around. And guess what? Feds are doing their own roundup too! Senator Katie Britt's sounding the alarm! She says letting Trump's tax cuts expire would hit Alabama families hard – think thousands of dollars! She's calling it "actual insanity" to even consider it. Yikes! South African refugees are making their way to Alabama, and let's just say the national conversation about it is getting a little spicy (and sadly, racist). The fact they are white seems to be fueling the fire. Alabama's Democratic lawmakers just pulled off a legislative power move! They jammed up the State Senate, stopping a whole bunch of local bills and that hot-button Archives and History Department bill. Could mean some major rule changes are coming next year! President Trump just inked a cool $1.2 trillion in economic commitments with Qatar, including a huge $96 billion Boeing jet deal and $34 billion in future defense investments! Meanwhile, the media is losing it over an airplane. Priorities, people! The Lowdown from Dale Jackson For more insights, check out Dale Jackson from Yellowhammer News! Hold on to your hats, ChumCity citizens! A recent national poll from Cygnal is dropping some truth bombs: Voters seem to trust Republicans in Congress more than Democrats, even with all the noise surrounding the GOP and former President Trump. Trump and House Republicans are apparently leading the pack on key issues like the economy (R+2), cost of living (R+2), and whoa, illegal immigration (R+25!). They're also seen as stronger on crime and public safety (R+13), cutting wasteful spending (R+18), and foreign affairs (R+2). What's more, married women, union members, and even Hispanics seem to be shifting towards the GOP since April! Pollster John Rogers suggests the Democrat Party's brand is at a "low point," with voters prioritizing issues like inflation and immigration. Rogers said, "Democrats aren’t connecting with the average voter. Fighting oligarchy is an abstraction, arguing for open borders is a losing message across the board, and neither addresses inflation and the economy.†Voters are loud and clear: they want the former President to focus on reducing the cost of living. A whopping 52% say this should be the top priority! It looks like voters are also backing Trump's trade moves, with 58% supporting his attempts to renegotiate deals. And almost half are on board with increasing tariffs on China to get better terms for the US. The poll also touches on the courts, with opinions split on whether they're acting as impartial umpires or trying to undermine the administration. Rep. Robert Aderholt recently met with Secretary Robert F. Kennedy of Health and Human Services to discuss crucial improvements to our nation's health systems. They focused on boosting the overall well-being of folks across the U.S. Aderholt highlighted that while we're dropping a HUGE amount of cash on healthcare – nearly $2 trillion a year – Americans still aren't seeing the health outcomes they deserve. "It's time for bold, innovative approaches, not just throwing more money at the problem!" Aderholt exclaimed. He's jazzed that Secretary Kennedy seems ready to shake things up and bring fresh ideas to HHS. Aderholt stressed that the declining state of healthcare in rural communities is a major reason for reform. "The health challenges in rural America are real and hit home hard," Aderholt said. "I'm all in on working with Secretary Kennedy to find solutions that protect access to care and keep our rural hospitals and providers strong." Referencing Secretary Kennedy's commitment to "respect the sanctity of life," Aderholt also addressed concerns about CDC-funded abortion-related activities under the Biden Administration. "As a staunch supporter of the right to life, I value Secretary Kennedy’s promise to uphold these core beliefs," he stated. Aderholt wrapped up by reaffirming his dedication to the American people and finding solutions that will truly make a difference in their lives. "Reforming Washington is a tough job," Aderholt admitted, "but we in Congress are ready to roll up our sleeves and work with the Secretary and the Administration to create real, lasting improvements to our health care system."Aderholt Tackles Health Care Woes with HHS Secretary Kennedy

The Alabama House just wrapped up its 2025 session with the legendary Shroud Award – the "deadest bill" prize! This quirky tradition, cooked up in '79 by Earl Mitchell, celebrates the bill with zero chance of survival. This year, Rep. Ron Bolton (R-Northport) snagged the honor for his child passenger restraint bill, HB18. The prize? A burial suit inside a cardboard coffin! While Bolton's intentions were good, his bill's complexity drew fire from all sides. Rep. Marcus Paramore even joked it would make his commute "nearly impossible"! Ouch. Speaker Nathaniel Ledbetter led the good-natured ribbing, celebrating Bolton's sportsmanship. The ceremony even featured a hilarious NASCAR-themed roast, dubbing Bolton's bill the "Strap Them Down and Buckle Them Up Special" that never left the pit! Bolton took it all in stride, signing the Shroud Award plaque. And who knows? History shows some Shroud Award winners, like medical marijuana and fantasy sports betting, have surprisingly risen from the legislative dead!Alabama's "Deadest Bill" Gets a Hilarious Sendoff!
