Alabama Senator Katie Britt didn't mince words on Sunday morning, folks! In a fiery interview on CBS's "Face the Nation," she declared reopening the federal government her "number one" priority. Britt accused Democrats of "playing politics" while hardworking Alabamians are struggling to make ends meet. Britt, speaking from Tuscaloosa, emphasized that debating the Affordable Care Act should wait until after the government is back up and running. She highlighted the very real pain felt by service members, veterans, federal workers, and their families. "We need to reopen the government. Democrats need to come to the table and do the right thing," Britt exclaimed. She urged a vote on a Continuing Resolution (CR) to get the government back in action. Britt mentioned that Senate Republicans have proposed alternatives to protect workers, even if Democrats refuse a deal. These include measures to ensure that working folks actually get paid during the shutdown. When pressed about expiring ACA tax credits and rising premiums, Britt reiterated that Republicans are willing to negotiate after the government is reopened. She argued that Democrats can handle multiple things at once – reopen the government then debate policy. Britt didn't hold back on her criticism of Obamacare, calling its cost structure "not sustainable." She argued that Democrats are asking taxpayers to subsidize higher-income households while federal employees go without pay during the shutdown. She added that health insurers say little of projected 2026 premium increases are from the credits debate. "It's ridiculous to say we’re afraid people cannot afford their health care, but at the same time we’re going to deny them their paycheck."Senator Britt Slams Dems Over Shutdown!
