Wetumpka Puts the Brakes on Certain Businesses!

Hold up, ChumCity! Wetumpka's City Council just hit pause on new licenses and building permits for a select bunch of businesses. We're talking package stores, convenience stores, gas stations, vape shops, mini-warehouses, and self-storage spots.

Why the Timeout?

Apparently, there are growing worries about public safety and zoning issues. City leaders are concerned about the rising number of these places and the potential problems they might bring, like jammed-up traffic and, gulp, increased crime.

Moratorium Details

This temporary freeze will be in effect until June 2026, giving officials some breathing room to study the situation and see if any zoning tweaks or other regulations are needed.

Who's Affected?

If you already submitted your applications for a building permit or an ABC license before the moratorium passed, you're in the clear. Also, existing businesses with valid licenses are good to go. Expired licenses though? Might be a no-go for reopening during this period.

Stay Tuned!

Wetumpka's taking a step back to re-evaluate. We'll be keeping an eye on how this unfolds!
