With State Rep. Debbie Wood packing her bags for Florida, one familiar face is stepping up to represent District 38 in the Alabama House. Kristin Nelson, the current Chair of the Chambers County Republican Party, has thrown her hat into the ring! Nelson, a lifelong resident of the Chambers-Lee County area, is ready to bring her experience from both the public and private sectors to Montgomery. Oh, and did we mention she's a homeschooling mom of two? Talk about juggling! "I know firsthand our district is full of hard-working families who are doing everything right, but still struggling to get ahead," Nelson stated. She's promising to fight for more good-paying jobs, safer communities, and stronger educational freedoms. Lowering taxes and making government work for the people are also top priorities. Beyond her political role, Nelson is deeply involved in the community. She works part-time at Harris Gray LLC, leads worship at Fairfax Methodist Church, and is active in several local organizations, including the Junior Variety Club and the EMAC Lanier Auxiliary Board. She's also the founder of the Chambers County Young Republicans. Whew! Nelson's campaign is focused on four key areas: strengthening public safety, supporting local economies, protecting educational freedoms, and delivering meaningful tax relief to working families. Wood's resignation is official on July 31, 2025. Governor Ivey has yet to announce a special election. Stay tuned to ChumCity for updates!Local Leader Eyes House Seat After Wood's Exit
