After a rollercoaster of uncertainty, the Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts is officially entering a shiny new era! The City Council gave a unanimous thumbs-up on Tuesday, solidifying the museum's unique dual governance. This means the City Museum Board and the MMFA Association can finally team up and move forward, hand-in-hand! WSFA says the agreement was hammered out in a closed-door pow-wow involving museum bigwigs, Mayor Steven Reed, and City Council members. It’s the third version of the proposal – talk about compromise! This final agreement puts an end to a long-standing tug-of-war over who's in charge, cementing a collaborative approach that's been the museum's guiding star for almost 60 years. Get ready! The museum can now jumpstart the search for a permanent director, a position that's been vacant since early 2023. WAKA Action 8 News reports the museum's partnered with the Kittleman Group, an executive search firm from Chicago. They can even bring in an interim director while the search is on! The council meeting was buzzing with museum supporters – docents, donors, local artists, you name it! Local artist Winfred Hawkins, whose solo show opens at MMFA on June 27, spoke to the council, urging everyone to dive into the museum's offerings. The council also gave a unanimous nod to a $169,090 HVAC contract, showing a commitment to the museum's long-term health. With the governance drama behind them, museum leaders are laser-focused on rebuilding their team, finding amazing new leadership, and keeping the museum a vibrant cultural hub for Montgomery!Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts: A New Day Dawns!
