Get your rods ready, folks! Governor Kay Ivey is hookin' us up with Alabama's annual Free Fishing Day on June 7th! That's right, cast your lines in most public waters without needing a fishing license. It's the perfect, budget-friendly excuse to soak up our state's awesome natural beauty. "Alabama's waters are world-class," says Governor Ivey, "and Free Fishing Day is a fantastic chance to experience them while supporting our economy. Grab your tackle and enjoy Alabama the Beautiful!" This awesome day falls smack-dab in the middle of National Fishing and Boating Week (June 1-8). It's all about gettin' outdoors and giving fishing a try without the usual paperwork. Most public freshwater and saltwater spots are good to go on Free Fishing Day. Just remember, Alabama's State Public Fishing Lakes still require a permit. And always get the landowner's okay before fishin' in private ponds. A shout-out to Academy Sports + Outdoors for sponsoring this year's Free Fishing Day! The Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (ADCNR) will be sharing discounts and event info on social media, so keep an eye out. Chris Blankenship, Commissioner of the ADCNR, reminds us that "fishing is great for mental and physical health, and it's a fantastic family activity. If you've never tried it, Free Fishing Day is your chance!" Oh, and did we mention it's during red snapper season? Saltwater anglers can ditch the saltwater fishing license and reef fish endorsement on June 7th too! "With tons of rivers, streams, Gulf Coast shoreline, top-notch bass fishing lakes, and massive artificial reef systems, Alabama is an angler's dream," Commissioner Blankenship adds. Even if fishin' isn't your thing, you can still enjoy Alabama's boating access areas. Happy Fishing, ChumCity!Reel 'Em In, ChumCity! Free Fishing Day is Coming!
